This Notice is to inform you about a proposed settlement in a class action lawsuit alleging race discrimination in the testing process for hiring in the positions of Michigan State Conservation Officer, State Police Trooper, Motor Carrier Officer, or State Properties Security Officer. The Defendants have denied any wrongdoing. The parties reached this Settlement before the Court made a determination about whether the law had been broken.
This is a Court authorized notice of a proposed settlement in a class action lawsuit. This is not solicitation from a lawyer.
The Court in this case approved the posting of this Notice so that it could be viewed by potential members of the Settlement Class. The Settlement Class includes:
(1) All African American applicants who took the Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam at any time on or after February 15, 2014 through November 2014 and failed the reading test, writing test, or overall examination; and
(2) All African American applicants who took the Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam at any time on or after December 1, 2014 through March 31, 2020 and failed the reading test, writing test, or both.
If you received a postcard notice, Defendants’ records indicate that you are a member of the Settlement Class defined above. You may also have received a notice giving you the opportunity to return a form showing that you are a member of the Settlement Class.
